Thawte Web of Trust Personal Certificate

Thawte, a Certificate Authority (CA) whose certificates are accepted by nearly all common web browser, offers free Personal Certificates which you could use for secure sending of messages or for authentication against a web server.

Compared to other Certificate Authorities the Thawte Personal Certificate System is based on the so called "Web of Trust". This is a community-driven system where you get "Trust Points" reflecting the trustability of your Personal Certificates. Starting with 0 points right after your request of participation you will get the right to include your real name to your Personal Certificate with 50 points or more. With 100 points or more you can become a so called notary yourself, giving points to others.

Thawte Web of Trust Personal Certificate System Enrollment

To join the Web of Trust you have to register first at Thawte. Please follow the instructions you will find on that page. The participation in the Web of Trust is free and there are no limitations in the amount of requested certificates.

After your registration you should receive a Thawte ID and a first certificate. Now you can contact us, to get your identity approved.

Confirmation of your identity by notaries of zeitform Internet Dienste

Please make an appointment with us by email. It is mandatory that you appear personally for the confirmation of your identity. In the section Contact or on http://www.zeitform.de you will find our address as well as description of approach.

Please bring a valid identity card together with a copy of both sides of it. If you registered at Thawte by using your driver license as an identity approve, you should bring this in as well.

At the moment we can provide you with more than 100 points. Confirmation itself lasts only a few minutes and the points are available at once.
